We are the painters is like a battle cry, it gives a hint about what we do and puts painting in the viewer's sight.

Biography

We Are The Painters’ satirical oeuvre places painting center stage. Through their artistic practice they challenge the notion of authorship by working as a collective. Enthusiasts of the “big outdoors”, they share their love for nature through portraiture, landscape and other genres. From their long excursions in the wilderness they give birth to artworks where they meet humans and non-human beings.

The CoBrA Group, with their “primitive” forms and inspired by Naïve art, seeked to get in touch with nature and work as a collective. Their ethos, consisting of indulging in color and expressing their internal child, cements a connexion between We Are the Painters and the group.

Another artist sharing this mind-set is Joan Miró who explored the subconscious and viewed painting as a vehicle to manifest his childlike true-self. He developed a unique pictorial language defying logic. Following this same vein, We Are the Painters' style expands beyond the limitation of their medium, amplifying the definition of painting.
