We’ve always been drawn to metamorphosis, juxtaposition, absurdity, surrealism, and mystery. But in a fun way. We want to entertain people, with each drawing telling a unique story. That story is determined by the viewer.

Biography

Mrzyk & Moriceau is an artistic duo composed by Petra Mrzyk and Jean-François Moriceau. Predominantly working with black ink, their drawings are distinctive for their minimalist aesthetics and their round forms. Lines are the foundation of their artistic practice, and through their simplicity they stage episodes of their daily lives humorously, transforming them into fictitious and amusing scenes.

At times erotic and full of vitality, their sense of humour and openness has led them to collaborate extensively with French musicians, concocting animated videoclips for artists of the likes of Sébastien Tellier, Air, The Avalanches, and more. This closeness with the music arena and their taste for black and white drawings brings them close to Raymond Pettitbon’s work, who in the 1990’s created the cover for Sonic Youth’s album Goo.

Other attributes of their work connect them to surrealist artists like Roberto Matta, the duo and the latter also working with biomorphic forms. This trait is also visible in their work with children’s books.
