What I intend to do are basically portraits of our time, of different ways of living, more than a final painting. I see it as a document of people who are walking this earth and whom I sometimes have the pleasure to meet and translate said meeting into a canvas.

Biography

Alejandra Hernández brings together everyday life and art history. Through her whimsical paintings, she depicts the life of young adults across the world, giving shape to a deeply intimate world where dreams and reality are but one. Her vivacious brushstroke gives life to works inhabited by women where they interact with animals or otherworldly beings.

Her taste in portraiture and nudes bring her closer to female artists like Tamara de Lempicka, who celebrated women and and in parallel paid homage to art history. Like de Lempicka, Hernández heightens the preciousness of the bond between women and even describes it as sacred.

But while de Lempicka’s work has a cubist aesthetic, Hernández is much more attuned with naïve art and we can find echoes of Camille Bonboi’s paintings. Her childlike lines testify to an inner world populated by chimeras and hybrids, often found in fairy tales or myths.
