About this artwork

This playful depiction of a human fist clutching claw-like object directly connects human beings with wildlife through a simple composition of light and shadow. With the title translated as “Tiger Fist”, this can be a vivid reminder of how close our relationships with animals is — that we even have similar forms or configurations with some animals. A fist often signifies power, but are human beings more powerful than nature?

One of the most outstanding Cuban artists in the fields of photography, documentary and experimental filmmaking, Juan Carlos Alom was recognized by the Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the 100 Latin American photographers of the millennium.
