About this artwork

The photograph depicts two stained hands, probably by paint as implied from the title. Graffiti can be found in many urban cities as many contemporary graffiti artists express their views on problems generated by urban development, such as economic inequality, pollution, and others. While graffiti artists are often invisible, Juan Carlos Alom put these hands of graffiti artists as the main subject matter in this work.

Juan Carlos Alom is one of the most outstanding Cuban artists in the fields of photography, documentary and experimental filmmaking. He was recognized by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the 100 Latin American photographers of the millennium.
