About this artwork
A pair of scissors, a watch, jewelry and pins are some of the objects over which a duck stands. Humorously depicting a curator, Dion assembled this sculpture with clutter.
Mark Dion is an American artist with multiple hats: explorer, biochemist, detective and archeologist. His work dwells on how Western civilization constructs and categorizes natural processes. Curiosity cabinets or wunderkammers have been a source of inspiration allowing him to scrutinize the heritage of 19th century scientists and thinkers alike. Biodiversity is at the core of his practice, stirring inconvenient questions about the future our other species as well as humans
