About this artwork
Nature, home to more than 2 million animal species on the planet, is no longer a safe place for them due to the threat that human impact represents to the physical environment. A drawing inspired by the tradition of explorers' or scientist’s sketchbooks, Arbor Vitae (2020) depicts the invasive action of human impact on nature, which disrupts and menaces ecosystems and the natural evolution of species.
Mark Dion's interest and concern for the current biodiversity crisis and the human relationship with nature continues to be at the heart of his work. Part of the drawings created by Mark Dion during the COVID 19 lockdown period in 2020, Arbor Vitae (2020) was exhibited during his most recent exhibition Retour à l’école at Galerie In Situ - fabienne leclerc.
