Biography
Combining together digital tools such as smartphones and laptops with biomorphic figures like plants and butterflies, Andrey Bogush creates artworks which explore our contemporary visual culture. Working across different disciplines such as fine art, fashion and advertising, Bogush’s work testifies to our contemporary lifestyle governed by social media imagery with its never ending stream of images. Working primarily with Photoshop but printing their images in odd surfaces like curtains, vinyls or rugs, they push photography further, making us reconsider the medium’s definition.
Adhering to Donna Haraway’s ideas described in her Cyborg Manifesto, Bogush views machines as extensions of our bodies instead of mere external tools. Like Haraway, they seemingly consider the human as a hybrid entity with both organic matter and machinery, choosing to show in their work a combination of technique and craftsmanship.
Georges Seurat’s pointillism can be viewed as an early precursor of the pixel, making his work akin to Bogush’s post-internet aesthetics where glitches and pixels are materialisations of our vision.
