About this artwork

On a flat ceramic bust, blue lines delineate the portrait of a long haired woman. From her chest up to her neck, impactful phrases cover the surface with feminist statements, on topics such as colonisation, patriarchy, and more importantly female health, namely reproductive health. A fervent defender of young people and their contemporary struggles, Alejandra Hernández shines a light on the condition of women and methods one could adopt to resist social, medical, sexual, and other pressures imposed on the gender. Like tattoos on her skin, the affirmations list new rules of conduct to survive in today’s tense climate.
