About this artwork

Streams of leaf filled wind coil over a snowy forest in this winter landscape. Seen from afar, the painting has an abstract quality due to the use of the negative space as dark, bending trees, but if we take a closer look at it, we catch sight of a figure, a nude person with a sword, running away. The piece is filled with energy and movement, as we follow the path of the wind through the trees, guiding the individual in their wild pursuit. Rocío García’s oeuvre centers around power and our proneness to abuse it; by examining masculinity and homoeroticism, she lays bare the inherent fragility of virile attitudes. Here, by letting go of a labeled binary, there is a return to the natural environment, which offers much more than social norms ever could.
