Biography
Kirill Savchenkov’s creations mediate through the consequences of the development of technology, he investigates the violence inflicted on communities caused by the weaponization of the media as well as scrutinizes the introduction of new traumas and hidden power systems in political regimes.
As he grew up in a Post-Soviet society, memory and transition are two ideas he elicits through his practice. Like Gordon Matta-Clark, Savchenkov evaluates urban communities, often using architecture as a means of expression. While Matta-Clark is directly engaged with architecture and Savchenkov relies a lot on photography, both artists go beyond the visible to focus on the interior workings of structures and societies.
Savchenkov’s process evokes the metabolism of the digitized world and the anxiety present in society today. The social commentary present in his works can be compared to works created during the Impressionist period, particularly "The Coal Workers" (1875) by Claude Monet, as they bring forth a new reality due to transformations in their environments.
