Trees are heritage, living matter, an elementary part of our cultural and historical whole. To bring art into Nature and Nature into art. The whole world is a stage to play, the world is like an atelier and the atelier is like a world. The garden is a Museum without walls: trees are our brushes, parks our palettes.

Biography

Testifying to the transition from centralized socialism to capitalism and the free-market, Igor Gubrić’s work investigates present day politics. Through his work, which includes photography, video, site-specific actions, and performances, he details how the change of systems has transformed the inner fabrics of society. Gubrić’s body of work is often described as connecting poetics, politics, and social realities. His symbolic actions reflect on distressing realities such as the violence inflicted against the LGBT+ community in the Balkans.

As he dwells on the Soviet past and the stories told by individuals, he explores the scars left by the regime in an effort to address collective traumas. His humanist approach profoundly echoes Svetlana Alexievich’s literary work which focuses on witness testimonies.

In the past years, Gubrić has focused on the importance of green gardens, particularly in cities like Naples, expanding the scope of themes he’s interested in. Creating works soliciting the audience’s participation, Grubić – like Bertolt Brecht –uses catharsis as a means to encourage social action.
