About this artwork
Wood, clothes, shoes, and plastic balls used in this sculpture were all collected by Diego Bianchi in urban settings. He reuses these discarded materials to address consumption and consumer waste. The juxtaposition of these materials and the resulted form perhaps denotes a human body or reminds one of a totem.
Since the currency devaluation during the period in Argentina after 2001, the greater visibility of discarded materials had an especially profound impact on Bianchi’s practice. This sculpture is an excellent example of how the artist has been pursuing an ethic of art-making involving reuse, versus engaging newly manufactured materials.
