About this artwork
The cardboard tv box used as the main body of the artwork is a quotidian object. Yet, the many toothpicks on the surface makes it unapproachable or even gives a sense of intimidation reminding one of pain. Through this contrast, Diego Bianchi invites the viewer to ponder upon the nature of consumption and consumer waste.
Since the currency devaluation during the period in Argentina after 2001, the greater visibility of discarded materials had an especially profound impact on Bianchi’s practice. This sculpture is an excellent example of how the artist has been pursuing an ethic of art-making involving reuse of found materials.
