About this artwork
"Panta Rhei" refers to Heraclitus’ famous statement “everything flows” – the fundament in western thought about the philosophical idea of impermanence. The screen-print portrays geometric motifs on which a set of cardboard shapes depicting images of stones can be arranged at will.
Francisco Tropa establishes a perennial dialogue between the old and the contemporary, between archaeology and art. The artist conveys different techniques to achieve intervariable works that are part of bigger cycles and installation settings. Tropa produces powerful, timeless images that create very allegorical situations that seem to use a forgotten language of form, but which require the spectator to have an endless web of interpretation in order to find a meaning that is always hidden, always beyond what we see.
