About this artwork
This artwork is a watercolor by artist Martin Dammann. Although representing a cozy cottage in the woods, it may be difficult to perceive the cabin for it is rather an abstract composition. Hues of colors such as blue, pink and green give it a lively outlook contrasting with other pieces from the artist. This artwork is unique in its kind as Dammann gives free rein to his brushstroke giving birth to an experimental watercolor where light and shadows oppose.
Presented during the exhibition Abstieg in the In Situ/Fabienne Leclerc gallery, the title refers to the katabasis or a descent towards an abyss. The unknown takes the shape of a cottage at night, kindling our deepest fears and our most primal emotions.
