About this artwork
The composition of this artwork with a lying figure at the bottom resembles Hans Holbein’s “The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb” and, more generally, the predella type of paintings. In Amir Nave’s artwork, the emptiness of the canvas and the abstract compositions in the upper corners create a mysterious and unsettling sensation pushing the viewer to question the power relations within the space of the canvas.
In Amir Nave’s artistic research “destruction says more than construction.” The tension and density or the lack of the above represents the relationship between emptiness and fullness. The figures of Nave’s drawings and paintings explore all kinds of intimate interactions between people and a person himself, ending up being an inquiry into meaningful forms and subconscious processes.
