About this artwork
This large collage in black and white ink on paper is full of different figures and symbols. It can be perceived as an encyclopedia or a database created by the artist. Overlapping and entangled, all of the figures create a chaotic power struggle which is intensified by the lines and glued-together pieces which together evoke the automatic drawings of surrealists. Both formally and meaningfully the viewer is pushed to question the relation between the figures and how they are bound together.
In Amir Nave’s artistic research “destruction says more than construction.” The tension and density or the lack of the above represents the relationship between emptiness and fullness. The figures of Nave’s drawings and paintings explore all kinds of intimate interactions between people and a person himself, ending up being an inquiry into meaningful forms and subconscious processes.
