About this artwork

The inhabitants of Pedro França's paintings seem lethargic, uncritical in thought and unambitious in their actions. They resist the obligation to die, as well as the desire to survive. They do nothing, but at the same time seem busy with themselves and with others. In the words of the artist: "there is eroticism, but not always; there is joy, but not always; there is death, but not always; there is care, affection, there is loneliness; there is everything, but nothing is always there. A diffuse ailment, but also gestures of hope and pleasure".

França's motifs seem to have be taken by the nausea of necropolitics, uncomfortable with the neutralization and emptying of death, with the reflections of the world's pandemic experience added to the rise of shady political powers. [based on the text by Clarissa Diniz]
