About this artwork

A blue monochrome composition conjures up fond memories of seascapes; the waves’ incessant movement together with their strength are portrayed in this hand-cutted paper by Ariamna Contino. The piece is clearly connected to the artist’s homeland, Cuba, which is surrounded by sea and can be both, a blessing or torture. The work’s title, Adrift, seemingly makes reference to Cuban’s intentions to leave the country and reach Miami via the sea, a perilous journey putting their lives at risk.

Ariamna Contino creates soothing and intricate artworks that conceal powerful and often political messages contrasting with her delicate compositions, further amplifying her intentions to subvert messages for her viewership.
