About this artwork
The figure’s long hair entangles around the vase while a bouquet is at her arm. The drawing demonstrates well-balanced composition. The lines on the hair and those on the clothing come into harmony. Oil pastel is used here, which Michal Helfman labels as a “rebellious” medium. One can also recall the term “flower power”, which used to describe the passive, peaceful resistance movement in the late 1960s, rooted in the opposition against the Vietnam War. The flower came to be an iconic symbol of non-violence and harmony.
Israeli multi-media artist Michal Helfman revisits history and boundaries, such as frontiers, through sculpture, architecture, video and drawing.
