About this artwork
"In relation to Ambrossio's work and as Chris Baldwick observed, in his introduction to a compilation of gothic narratives, a legitimate gothic work "must combine an unsettling sense of heritage in time with a claustrophobic sense of confinement in space, both dimensions reinforcing each other to produce an impression of maddening descent into disintegration. This "topology of horror," is a primary reaction to social, technological, and political change.” Cuahutemoc Medina
"Blood Orange is a contemporary portrait of the chaos that appeals to sublimate the emotional death that I decided to give to my whole family in order to heal from the hatred, anger and sadness I felt for the macho orthodoxy in which I was educated.” Liza Ambrossio
It was Liza Ambrossio's birthday when she lived in the United States, and she asked her friends as a gift to take her to eat lobster. Suddenly and by free association they began to play with the food. "El rasguño" is the beginning of a chapter of her life; it's a marker and at the same time a tool that hurts, but that tries to plant in the observer the powerful desire for freedom and self-exile that narrates the series "Blood orange".
The work is part of the Collection Nationale Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac and Nadine Foundation collection.
