Biography

In her native Mexico City, Liza Ambrossio depicts her transition from adolescence to adulthood, searching for ways to survive, during a chaotic and stormy process of emancipation from her family. She inherited her profession as a "nota roja" (police press) photographer, covering murders, accidents and torture by drug dealers for a local newspaper. Her work incorporates symbols alluding to witchcraft, Japanese ero guro, mythology, memories and legends that the artist blends into her story.

The strong interest with death and its omnipresence in their culture is also found within Enrique Metinides' photographies. Publishing his first photo of a dead body in a newspaper at twelve years old, he continued his career focusing on these sudden and violent images of car crashes and crime scenes.

Combining the interests for the afterworld, divinities, female work, and native cultures, Inuk Canadian artist Pitseolak Ashoona found ways of transmitting trauma as well as keeping Inuk daily life alive through her artworks.
