About this artwork
"In relation to Ambrossio's work and as Chris Baldwick observed, in his introduction to a compilation of gothic narratives, a legitimate gothic work "must combine an unsettling sense of heritage in time with a claustrophobic sense of confinement in space, both dimensions reinforcing each other to produce an impression of maddening descent into disintegration. This "topology of horror," is a primary reaction to social, technological, and political change.” Cuahutemoc Medina
"[The Rage of Devotion] is a voodoo project, capable of reconstructing a part of the personal and contemporary history of many women, willing to emancipate themselves from the social structures that have been predisposed for them.” Liza Ambrossio
Duplicity in the world of magic and images represents the forbidden, temptation and desire. This image within "The Rage of Devotion" exemplifies the artist's step to accept that the legend that her grandmother told that she and all the women in her family came from a lineage of witches was real. With that story, she takes on the power to go through a complex reality that she had lived.
