About this artwork

Six food products constitute the center of the diet for Cuban people: zugar, bread, coffee, meat, potato and rice. They represent not only the cultural and culinary history of the nation, but the variations in production, circulation and consumption they have experienced throughout history, symbolizing the country’s economic fluctuations and the political manipulation of these components by the state to maintain and legitimize its authority.

Cornerstone constitutes the first set of NFT artworks physically exhibited in an art space in Cuba, and the first of the genre produced by the artist Reynier Leyva Novo. This artwork was exhibited in the context of the show « Cartografía de la libertad », at Galería El Apartamento, the most recent personal exhibition of the artist in this space, where the artist placed the concept of freedom once more at the center of his reflections.
