About this artwork
"Untitled (Wachsfaltung)" (2013) consists of a simple foil of concrete bent in such a soft, delicate gesture that totally defies its materiality. Originally cast flat between two layers of wax, this material was finally melted away from the work as if in a desire to reach for a bare essentiality. The artwork emanates an austere and haptic quality, endowed with a subtle power.
Thrust, jerked, thrown, wrapped, rolled – in Christoph Weber’s hands, concrete, the commonplace material par excellence, finds constantly new and surprising forms. His objects move as if naturally between the expended brutality and the unexpected poetry of the material. According to the artist, cement and concrete are a symbol of the Anthropocene, the most common material consumed by mankind after water. [based on the text and interview by Gabriel Roland]
