About this artwork
The iron rebars lay wrapped in cloth and cement, perhaps in an attempt to fix a wound or a fracture. The sculpture acknowledges a certain ambivalence of robustness and frailty, construction and ruin.
Thrust, jerked, thrown, wrapped, rolled – in Christoph Weber’s hands, concrete, the commonplace material par excellence, finds constantly new and surprising forms. His objects move as if naturally between the expended brutality and the unexpected poetry of the material. According to the artist, cement and concrete are a symbol of the Anthropocene, the most common material consumed by mankind after water. [based on the text and interview by Gabriel Roland]
