About this artwork
A multitude of bent plaster bars are stacked one upon another, building a resemblance of a staircase or ladder on the wall. This set of plaster reliefs molded from IKEA stool legs is also covered in metallic powders of various colors, giving different subtle shades to the sculpture. The repurposing and transformation of banal, cheap materials is Nika Neelova’s way of returning to the individual physicality of the work and its raw, natural origins. There is a strong insistence on creating this work with one’s own hands, and a refusal of technological advances, which may have gone too far and detached the human from its humanity.
