About this artwork
A drawing of Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne, legendary sculpture exhibited at the Galleria Borghese in Rome, masterfully sketched out, intentionally misses its midsection. It clearly hasn’t been erased, but rather omitted during the drawing process. This deliberate gesture by Ciprian Mureșan fits into his examination of western art history, and his approach to deconstruct it. A tale of non-consensual conquest, Apollo and Daphne’s story is reflected in attempts to occupy territories. Consequently, the notion of values arises, inquiring how we have come to consume objects of incredible ascribed value in complete banality.
