About this artwork
In Christoph Weber’s hands, concrete, the commonplace material par excellence, finds constantly new and surprising forms. His objects move as if naturally between the expended brutality and the unexpected poetry of the material. Nevertheless, wax is a recurrent element in the artist's process, in many cases gaining its own prominence. Normally employed to cast textures and mold cement in gravity defying shapes, the malleable and sensitive material is to a certain extent an antithesis to the sturdiness of cement. Similar to concrete construction, metal bolstering allows the soft wax to stand on its own.
