About this artwork
In this image manipulated by Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil, a rock in the seascape at the center was cut out and filled with an image of a dark starry sky. It is as if the three figures at the foreground are looking at this fascinating, mysterious rock — enriching the image with perspective and depth.
This work is the first one in the series Le tourbillon de la vie, in which the artist recontextualizes photos that remind one of Leon Spilliaert’s paintings. The name of the series shares the name of a song by Jeanne Moreau, one of the essential titles of French song featured in François Truffaut's film Jules et Jim.
