About this artwork
The image shows a group of men and one of them holding a slogan that translates “Don’t look at the camera. Pray.” Everything else in the photograph has been covered with white lines by the artist. Through this simple gesture of erasing, a narrative can be reinvented.
Le silence va plus vite à reculons is a photographic series using press images of violent events or public demonstrations where everything is erased with white lines except faces, bodies, and slogans. The title of the series is a phrase that appears in the film Orpheus by renowned French director Jean Cocteau.
