About this artwork

This painting by Damien Deroubaix shows a human body naked from behind. Voluptuous curves and a contrasting color palette enhance the figure, adding relief to the whole. Echoing the Venus of Willendorf, the wide hips and tiny waist also remind us of the Kim Kardashians of today, who have created entire businesses on their image alone. In a country who has immensely profited on aesthetics and cultures coming from black women, combining all these elements is a way for the artist to show the irony and hypocrisy of the USA. At the same time as white people profit from them, POC and Indegenous peoples are in turn rejected and the most prone to poverty.
