About this artwork

Orestes Hernández's assembled sculptures center on one of the most recurrent motifs of his pictorial, audiovisual, sculptural, and processual work: a mental universe where childhood and adulthood coexist. The majority of his characters are hybrid beings, playful chimeras that mix references from classic tales such as the wolf or the hare with mythological and religious creatures, cartoons of his childhood, and beings he dreams of over and over again.

There is a constant propensity to short circuit and break in the work of Orestes Hernández. His objects and installations dismantle the artistic reality by looking for new ways to create art. For example when he paints, his production directly connects with his video work. Through this simple gesture Orestes uses an aesthetics based on "cut and paste" and contemporary visual saturation.
