I hope the photos will show that we are all human beings, even people who are different are still people and still have feelings and interests.
Biography
Pavel Wolberg, currently living in Israel but born in Leningrad in the Soviet Union, has an artistic practice revolving around national identity and its myths. His life in Tel Aviv, his familial background, and the cultural shock he experienced upon his move to Be’er Sheva as a child deeply influenced his interest in "the fragmentation of identity", a subject he often depicts in his photographs.
The portrayal of human rights and identity in his photographs is similar to Susan Meiselas’ photography. The photographs Wolberg produces provide visual counter-information rather than popular images distributed in the media, challenging accepted societal norms and beliefs.
His realistic representations of human experience and their relationships continue the style of photojournalism practiced by Robert Capa, a photographer interested in conflict, borders and national identity like Wolberg himself. Wolberg often uses panorama as a format to represent an event with as many details as possible in order to portray the broader context of the moment providing a bigger picture.
