One of the essential questions that runs through my work is: What disappears?
I think a lot about the ephemeral.
Biography
Jessy Razafimandimby's multidisciplinary work spans painting, drawing, installations, and performance, often merging these practices. Razafimandimby manipulates fragmented decorative objects and textiles, pushing the boundaries of his art and creating a dialogue between sculpture and painting.
Drawing inspiration from 1960s French cinema, jazz, design, and postwar architecture, the artist explores the history of interior decoration and the social conventions tied to a classist bourgeois system. His focus on domesticity and collective memory manifests in his works, featuring human figures, animals, and fantastical beings that embody both utopian and dystopian themes.
Through these creations, Razafimandimby questions how we connect with our environment and each other, weaving in notions of taste, belonging, and power within chaotic, fictional domestic spaces.
