About this artwork

The Cassini probe, sent to space by collaborating Space Agencies, crashed into the rings of Saturn in 2017. Here Basim Magdy connects this event with the registration of Google.com as a domain name, 19 years earlier. By combining this statement with two images, one of an intense, make-up wearing gaze, and another of a peaceful wavy beach scene, the artist develops an uneasy and dream-like quality in the triptych. We are transported in a blue world of future and past, uncertainty and possibility, where one can conjure their own subconscious message. We can imagine that the Google referenced by Basim Magdy has created such a world, one of endless knowledge and information. The question now is: what have we made of it in its two decades of existence?
