About this artwork

Two concepts at odds converge in this photograph by Geert Goiris. The timelessness of the landscapes together with their stillness contrasts with the movement of the racing cars creating a gap between them. Time is at a standstill revealing that despite society’s frantic pace, quietude exists. The photograph is all the more relevant these days as climate change is hitherto transforming snowy landscapes driving them into extinction.

Geert Goiris travels the world, seeking out unusual places and interpreting them in enigmatic images. Despite the high resolution afforded by his large-format film camera, his images don’t overwhelm us with definitive information. They are intentionally unpinned from a specific era, giving the feeling that we could be simultaneously looking at the past and the future.
