About this artwork

Often supplementing their performances with drawings of the poses taken, Prinz Gholam immortalize the act all while exploring the balance between the physical and pictorial representation. Here, these drawings accompanied their performance at the Punta Della Dogana in Venice, which was composed of poses and movements inspired by their rich surroundings. Finding themselves in an environment positively heavy with cultural history, the reinterpretation of it through the body gives the artist duo and their viewers a new understanding of these intertwined elements. As the body becomes the machine and mechanism of learning, one of outward self-expression, we can feel a reappropriation and appreciation of the vessel, no longer taking it for granted.
