About this artwork
"Safe spaces" are creative spaces where the artist takes pleasure without any external aesthetic constraints. They immerse us in the heart of past stories that continue to influence or reflect in our present.
If for Gaëlle Choisne it is a question of "reconstructing rooms of one's own", of giving new life to the stories embedded in official history, buried in memories, a part of magic is necessary. It is translated by the implementation of what she calls "scrap-painting" - or "safe space for passing history" - echoing the practice of scrapbooking (vernacular self-narrative cobbled together from photographs and pieces of reality inserted by collage in albums).
