About this artwork

A human being has on average about 2 square meters of skin. Deployed in space, suspended by small golden chains, this skin is a fabric that records, a sensitive surface. The work Peau de Chagrin is the result of a series of experiments with silicone and surfaces onto which the artist transfers images. The images are those of tourist views of Haiti, her mother's country of origin, whose history, myths and ecosystem constitute her main source of inspiration. Under the glossy film of cheap exoticism, the troubled and toxic repressed appears; the specters of colonization as well as the threats of global pollution.
