About this artwork

A figure moves across the canvas, in a swift and organic manner. A strength emanates from it, thanks to contrasts of light and dark, achieving a three dimensional effect. Despite the abstract nature of her work, Helen Teede ascribes her love for land and her concern to preserve it to the paintings. As a Zimbabwean artist, her works bear the weight of the country’s history and future, which includes caring for the earth its people are in contact with. There is thus a certain aggressiveness and intensity in “Little Water Dragon,” due to Helen Teede’s fierce commitment to these natural elements.
