About this artwork
Under the purple drippings of fabric dye, a similarly colored figure bends its back, its red hands reaching for the ground. The movement seems to carry a lot of weight, a painful gesture that will require much to stand back up straight. The hazy scene, as if about to evaporate from the canvas, is Helen Teede’s homage to the natural environment, an embodiment of her political and social stances. This harvest can be a symbol of abundance, togetherness, and hope for what comes next. As all crops go, the future is not grown in a day, and requires patience and care.
