About this artwork

The New World Summit is an artistic and political organization founded by visual artist Jonas Staal in 2012, dedicated to providing “alternative parliaments” hosting stateless and blacklisted organizations that currently find themselves excluded from democracy. The parliaments of the New World Summit propose new imaginaries and choreographies for the performance of politics and future of the democratic project. They were realized in Berlin (2012), Leiden NL (2012), Kochi IN (2013) and Brussels (2014). These summits hosted more than thirty stateless and blacklisted organizations from all over the world. Currently the 5th parliament is being constructed as a permanent public site in Rojava, West-Kurdistan. In preparation of each of these parliaments, sculptural and architectural studies were made.
