About this artwork
Brightly colored shapes and splatters compete for attention on this canvas, moving around and seemingly vibrating to the rhythm of the cosmos. Instead of interpreting this trip into space as escapism, Pebofatso Mokoena practices hyper presence by experiencing existence at its fullest. Strongly absorbing the history of apartheid in South Africa, Pebofatso Mokoena focuses on what can make us come together rather than apart. There is a desire to share and rebuild, using the cosmos as common grounds for all. These common grounds are what yesterday’s UNESCO literacy day prones, with equal and just opportunities for all in the educational sector.
