The disturbances and interferences [in the photographies] are handmade, but they give a digital look to the images. This tension gives them a certain dynamic, like someone is racing, restless, through the world.

Biography

Anna Vogel studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Thomas Ruff and Andreas Gursky, developing a unique visual language influenced by the minimalist style of Bernd and Hilla Becher. She combines her own and found photographs, manipulating them digitally and adding expressive touches with materials like varnish, ink, and pigment. This results in surreal landscapes and abstract forms that blur the line between reality and abstraction.

Her work explores themes such as digital communication, nature, and history, transcending traditional photographic boundaries. Vogel employs a mix of analog and digital techniques, using collage and drafting tools to alter compositions. The resulting images evoke a sense of ambiguity, with familiar yet foreign landscapes that convey a melancholic energy, leaving viewers with a feeling of uncertainty and intrigue.
