Summary

After-school support and life interpersonal skills development programs.

Our after-school education programs in South Africa are carried out in communities characterized by high unemployment rates, crime, violence, HIV infection, and now the collateral damage of COVID-19. The proposed FXB After-School – Life skills Program targets 80 extremely vulnerable school children aged 9 to 14. Many of these children live in appalling conditions and often face one or more of the following problems: family deaths, break-ups and dividing of children into extended families, physical or sexual abuse, malnutrition, and HIV/AIDS-related stigma/infection.

Our program aims to limit the consequences of these situations in the daily lives of our young participants, alleviate their moral distress and open up more dignified prospects for their future. Our ambition is also to generate behavioral change within communities; we are thus working to develop essential skills that will help our young people become resilient adults and full-fledged members of society.

To that end, FXB organizes global activities and sets specific objectives:

- Improve school performance and attendance and encourage to pursue further studies

- Enhance the psychosocial status of youth beneficiaries and promote social inclusion

- Improve nutritional status of youth and their families

- Enhance youth’s life skills and their leadership

- Raise community awareness

Since the beginning of the mission in 1999, nearly 4,500 children and youths have attended FXB programs in South Africa.
