Organization information
SOL (Alternatives Agroécologiques et Solidaires)
Location: Paris, France
Summary
A project to promote a healthy and local consumption.
Senegal is affected by an increasing dependence on cereal imports and is at the forefront of climate change and desertification, affecting local agriculture and economy. In this context, SOL works with its local partner Federation of Senegalese NGOs since 2011 to develop and perpetuate a sustainable value chain centred on traditional cereals. This project aims to strengthen food sovereignty, rural employment, women’s empowerment, and food nutritional quality in Senegal.
For this current phase, the project focuses on strengthening the productive and entrepreneurial capacities of producers, processors, and bakers, and on promoting a conducive political and social environment to the development of the initiative at the local, national, and West African levels. To this end, 270 family farms will be trained in agroecology, 4 processing units and 3 shops will benefit from ongoing entrepreneurial support and 250 women processors and 60 bakers will have their technical and organisational capacities strengthened in order to offer more than 45,000 consumers products processed from local cereals.
