Kiwix: Make internet resources available offline
Organization information
Kiwix
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Summary
Almost four billion people today are still missing reliable internet access. This can be because of poor connectivity, censorship, or simply because they cannot afford to pay for data.
Kiwix is a simple offline browser that brings internet content to millions without internet access. The technology allows entire websites to be compressed and downloaded into a single, portable archive. They can then be browsed locally and at will, even in the absence of the internet.
The entirety of Wikipedia, but also conferences, Khan Academy, and thousands more in one hundred languages can now fit on a regular smartphone or refurbished computer.
Kiwix has around 6 million users worldwide and is aiming at 100 million by 2025.
