Help Build a Chimney Swift Tower
Organization information
Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary, Inc.
Location: Charlottesville, United States of America
Summary
Chimney swifts are declining in number because of the loss of habitat. They began nesting in chimneys as forests were cleared and houses were built. However, they can not make nests in metal-lined chimneys. With fewer available chimneys (those with metal liners or chimney caps prevent nesting) and hollow trees, their numbers are diminishing. We also hope to create an area for swifts to roost when they return from wintering in Peru from November through March.
